As blockchain and virtual currencies continue to evolve, the demand for industry professionals proficient in the technology increases in parallel–with certified professionals having the added advantage of being able to validate their knowledge in the field. We have compiled a list of blockchain certifications that can help professionals boost their qualifications with this disruptive skill.
1. Blockchain Training Alliance
The Blockchain Training Alliance, along with computer-based testing leader, Pearson VUE, offers blockchain certifications that will equip developers and software architects with essential blockchain skills. Certification is offered in three high-growth areas: BTA Certified Blockchain Solution Architect (CBSA), BTA Certified Blockchain Developer – Ethereum (CBDE), and BTA Certified Blockchain Developer – Hyperledger (CBDH). Furthermore, the certifications will be registered on public and private blockchains, providing secure verification of credentials for both students and employers.
2. RMIT University
RMIT is the first university in Australia to offer a dedicated blockchain course. The course entitled, “Developing Blockchain Strategy” is a 8-week course that covers the foundations of blockchain, along with practical applications and usage skills. The course was constructed by RMIT’s Blockchain Innovation Hub in partnership with industry leaders like Accenture and Asia’s largest fintech hub, Stone and Chalk.
3. Cryptocurrency Certification Consortium (C4)
The C4 is a non-profit that aims to provide valid blockchain certifications for professionals that demonstrate their comprehensive knowledge of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. The certifications offered are: Certified Bitcoin Professional (CBP), Certified Bitcoin Expert (CBX), and Certified Ethereum Developer (CED). There are no courses attached to the certifications and therefore, they are geared specifically towards professionals that are already knowledgeable in the field but want the benefits of certification.
4.Saïd Business School – University of Oxford
The Oxford Blockchain Strategy Programme offered through a collaboration of Oxford Saïd and online education provider, GetSmarter, is a programme made for senior executives, managers, and curious professionals. The programme will help these professionals capitalize on the opportunity that blockchain presents by preparing them with a fundamental understanding of the technology in various aspects–from how it works to market implications. Those who complete the course receive a certificate of attendance from Oxford Saïd as validation of their newfound blockchain knowledge and skills, as well as access to a global network of like-minded business leaders and innovators.
TransformationWorx, the CIO Association of Canada, and the Institute of Certified Management Consultants of Ontario (CMC-Ontario) are the first in the world to offer certifications to CIO Certified Blockchain Professionals (CCBP). The certification is preceded by a programme that is tailor-made for C-suite executives from all areas of business and technology. The programme consists of workshops that cover emerging topics of interest within business digital transformation that include the blockchain, and certification is notarized on the Ethereum blockchain.
6. IBM developerWorks
IBM offers accessible courses and resources for developers who are keen to: learn more about blockchain basics, build their blockchain skills, connect with a community of developers for knowledge sharing, and create networks and applications for more practical learning. Their certification comes in the form of an IBM Open Badge that allows you to share proof of your IBM credentials at your choosing.
For those that are involved in the legal and compliance aspect of businesses, the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists or ACAMS offers a training a comprehensive AML training course that covers the basics of virtual currency, including regulatory evolution, understand case studies from law enforcement and their real-world application, and identify and mitigate the threat to financial institutions. The training rewards successful participants with a certificate of completion proving their commitment to protecting their institution from financial crimes.
8. B9lab Academy
We’ve mentioned B9lab Academy before in a previous article, but they are worth mentioning again. Their courses are extremely in-depth and comprehensive, with a range of subjects including Ethereum, hyperledger, blockchain theory, and on-site workshops. They also offer some free courses for professionals looking to gain a foundation in the field. Successful participants receive a certificate that is verified on the Ethereum blockchain.
Here are some additional courses that are popular within the blockchain community.
The Blockchain Council offers an array of certification programmes and courses that cover different aspects of the industry. One of their more notable certifications is their Certified Blockchain Expert training. The programme prepares professionals with a profound understanding of blockchain technology and the ability to build blockchain-based applications for businesses. The certification consists of an exhaustive training, exam-based programme aiming to impart in-depth practical knowledge in blockchain technology. This certification offers 6 hours of self-paced training with an online examination and a Blockchain Council Certificate which is awarded after clearing the examination. This program also doesn’t require any prior technical background. Anyone willing to start his/her career in blockchain technology can opt for this.
